The strongest evidence for extending healthspan still comes from the basics:
- Exercise — both resistance and aerobic training reduce mortality and preserve muscle and brain function.
- Sleep — consistent, sufficient sleep supports immune function, metabolism and cognitive health.
- Diet quality — Mediterranean-style and lower-glycaemic patterns are linked to slower ageing biomarkers.
- Social connection — loneliness is associated with higher mortality and faster epigenetic ageing.
- Not smoking and moderate alcohol — these remain among the strongest predictors of healthy lifespan.
Supplements such as NMN and NAD+ precursors, resveratrol and spermidine are being studied, but none have replaced these lifestyle foundations.
